How Long Does it Take for your Food to Spoil?

NutritionkellypuryearComment

As a new mother, I can hardly keep track of how long it has been since I washed my hair never mind how long certain foods have been in my house and whether or not they have spoiled. It can be difficult to keep track of all the food in your fridge, freezer, or pantry – especially if you have a new baby to take care of, buy bigger quantities to food prep, or you have a big family to shop for. Whether you have an (adorable) infant demanding your undivided attention or not, we all simply forget about food that's been pushed to the back of the freezer from time to time! Have no fear, my friends over at Kitchen Cabinet Kings have put together a simple guide and visual that breaks down how long it takes common foods to spoil in the fridge, freezer, or pantry!

how long does it take for your food to spoil

Too often, there’s a gray area on whether the foods we buy for our household have gone bad, particularly meats, eggs, starches, greens, and the like. Not keeping track of your food purchases can lead to throwing away and wasting food, money, and increasing your risk to get sick by eating spoiled foods. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like to waste food or increase my family’s risk of getting food poisoning because I have “mom brain” and can’t remember my name most days! I’ve learned that it can be helpful to put together an organization system, whether it’s with labels or a chart with purchase dates, but having this guide on hand makes for a super easy reference. This helpful resource will help clear up the confusion on best practices to storing your favorites foods, and hopefully help reduce food waste (and not get you or your loved ones sick)!
